It takes approximately 4 weeks for your provisional licence to be processed by the DVLA and delivered. However you can apply for your licence up to 2 months before your 17th birthday. By sending off your application early, you can have your 1st driving lesson on your birthday with no wasted time.
Learn your theory !
As well as applying for your provisional licence early, you can also start learning the highway code in preparation for the theory test. This means you will have a fuller understanding of road procedure,signs and road markings when you come to start your driving lessons. This is advantageous in that you can concentrate on the practical side of driving rather than being tied up with the theory as well.
